Believe it or not, some people in Indonesia not only don't have access to a TV, telephone, or mobile phone, they don't even have electricity in their homes! There in fact, some people still have to take a bath in the river and scrub their body with stone or coconut fiber instead of soap! Brothers and sisters, this is a reality for many!
Ev. Ayuningsih, an evangelist serving in a remote area of West Kalimantan sent this letter to us:
"The cost of living in our remote area is so expensive. Mineral water per gallon is IDR 30,000 and kerosene is IDR 20,000. We only can eat sweet potatoes and corn, drink raw water because we cannot afford to boil it, and brush our teeth with coconut fiber. We sleep on smooth wood skin or dry banana tree leaves. Our clothes are torn and we attend Sunday service by only wearing short trousers and shabby clothes."
Some ministers of God have experienced the cruel Kalimantan forests. Once, Ayu accompanied a female preacher from Jakarta to serve in that area. The female preacher almost died because she were extremely exhausted and could not breath, her legs were swollen after a 6 mile walk, and she still had 67 more miles to go.
Another minister from Surabaya who did not believe how harsh it was in remote areas decided to visit Kalimantan. After he traveled 13 miles, he convulsed and suddenly died. His body was carried by motorcycle to the nearest city and finally returned to his hometown. That's how difficult it is to serve on the mission field in Kalimantan.
Servants' of God in Remote Areas
"Thank you to YASKI who helped me with my duck farm," wrote one listener. "Now I can buy duck breeds and duck food. I see that many servants of God have been helped by YASKI and are now succeeding and able to help other servants of God. But there are still hundreds servants of God in West Kalimantan who have not received any assistance."
Please hear the voice of God's servants. Even though conditions are difficult, we believe God will not abandon His servants. Please consider supporting these people who are sacrificially serving the Lord. |
