The Ups and Downs of Santi's Life

The following is Santi's life story, a teacher who had the courage to move to an unknown city to earn a living in Jakarta and find a better life.
"My name is Santi. I am 60 years old. I came from Brebes and grew up in Magelang and am now working in Jakarta. When I was in Magelang, I had to sell things daily to earn a living for me and my mother. Then one day my friend invited me to enroll in a school where people are trained to be teachers. I decided to follow her because I want to improve myself. Before then, my family often mocked me because I was not as successful as others."
But Santi was not satisfied with her income as teacher, so she also sold food as a side job.
"At that time, I asked one of my relatives to find a job for me in Jakarta, which was a substitute teacher position."
In 1980 Santi gathered her courage and moved to Jakarta. By the time she arrived, she discovered the real situation was much different from her expectation.
"But the teacher salary was not enough. So I decided to also make snacks and sell them. Later, a friend asked me to be a helper in a saloon owned by a member of a church assembly. But because this caused a conflict with my school schedule, I decided to quit and move to another school where I worked for 15 years."
Finally Santi is entering her retirement years. She lives independently and runs a small business, selling mineral water and gasoline.

YASKI distributed small business assistance to Santi. This business assistance lent without any interest. Santi pay this loan and pay the installment IDR 200,000 each month. Now there is only 4 times for her to pay the installment with the small business she runs herself.
